Underwriting Analyst

The Miller Group, a top Midwest brokerage firm founded in 1961 with roots in the construction industry, is seeking an Underwriting Analyst to support its Innovations team under the Vice President of Innovations. The Miller Group offers a full range of services, including property & casualty insurance, employee benefits, surety bonds, and safety and loss prevention.

  • Market medical reinsurance contracts to carriers and negotiate favorable terms for client renewals and new placements.
  • Analyze carrier proposals and provide recommendations to internal teams and clients.
  • Maintain strong relationships with carrier partners to ensure competitive offerings for clients.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Innovation to deliver client-facing financial and risk analysis.
  • Convert complex financial data into clear, actionable reporting for service teams and clients.
  • Ensure timely completion of essential tasks throughout the client service cycle.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and innovations impacting employee benefits and reinsurance.
  • Assist in developing strategic visions for employee benefits clients, particularly those with self-funded health plans or considering self-funded health plans.
  • Create and maintain reporting templates; develop new templates as needed to meet client requirements.
  • Support the VP of Innovation and other internal teams with special projects as assigned.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Life and Health license, preferred.
  • Previous underwriting or actuarial experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both face-to-face and in writing.
  • Proactively identifies client issues to avoid disruptions in client service and/or coverage.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve challenges effectively.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact well with diverse personalities.
  • Able to operate independently with minimal supervisor intervention.
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment with a detail-focused approach.
